Patna: Police in Patna have arrested a man who was pretending to be a senior police officer and cheating government employees. The accused has been identified as Aslam Ahmed, a resident of Harman Colony in Hajipur. He was caught by Phulwari Sharif police after several complaints were lodged against him.
According to the police, Ahmed had been active for the past one to two months. He used to introduce himself as an Additional Director General (ADG) of police and threatened government staff, especially land measurement officers known as Amins. He would send threatening emails and make phone calls, warning them to stop their work in land dispute cases. Police said he had already threatened at least seven to eight people in this way.
During the arrest, police seized an Apple mobile phone and a laptop from him. Investigations showed that he was using a fake email ID — adg.patna.gov@gmail.com — to cheat people. He would also call government offices claiming to be a representative of the ADG to put pressure on employees. His main focus was on cases of land disputes, where he tried to create fear and gain benefits.
Western SP Bhanu Pratap Singh said that the accused is being questioned and further investigation is underway. Police are checking the data found on his mobile and laptop to see how many people he has cheated and whether others are involved in his network. Officials said more details will come out once the interrogation is complete.
