Patna Municipal Corporation Gears Up for Monsoon Challenges: Multi-Agency Meet Addresses Drainage Concerns
Patna: In a proactive effort to prepare for the impending monsoon season, the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) convened an inter-departmental meeting to tackle anticipated challenges. Led by Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar and Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo)’s managing director, Yogesh Kumar Sagar, the gathering delved into a spectrum of issues ranging from drain blockages to construction-related hindrances.
During the extensive session, representatives from various departments engaged in a comprehensive discussion on pressing matters. Among the key topics deliberated were drain collapses attributed to departmental works, impediments to cleaning posed by poles obstructing drain pathways, and challenges associated with manhole maintenance.
The discourse extended to exploring solutions for drainage systems reliant on pumping mechanisms, addressing encroachments surrounding drains, and ensuring seamless connectivity to sump houses. Emphasis was also placed on the imperative task of thoroughly cleaning drains and installing gratings as deemed necessary.
Of notable mention was the forthcoming trial of electricity connections in sump houses slated to commence in April, a significant step towards bolstering infrastructure resilience ahead of the monsoon onslaught.
A collaborative approach emerged as the cornerstone of the meeting’s outcomes, with plans for joint site visits involving executive officers and engineers from relevant departments. This concerted effort aims to identify drainage issues firsthand and swiftly implement remedial measures through coordinated action.
To streamline communication and ensure expeditious progress, a dedicated WhatsApp group has been established to monitor daily tasks across all departments. This platform will serve as a hub for ongoing updates and facilitate real-time oversight by senior officials, underscoring the commitment to timely and efficient execution of monsoon preparedness initiatives.
Attended by officials from a diverse array of departments including the Road Construction Department, PESU, Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation, GAIL India Limited, Patna Metro Rail Project, Namami Gange, and Water Resources Department, the meeting epitomized a collaborative effort towards safeguarding the city’s infrastructure against the challenges posed by the impending monsoon season.
