Patna: Bihar is set to see a major boost in rail infrastructure with the introduction of ring networks in Patna and Bhagalpur, officials announced on Monday. The plan forms part of a broader initiative to strengthen connectivity across the state, including the development of new terminals and additional railway lines.
The proposed Patna ring network will link Phulwari, Hajipur, Sonpur, and Danapur, ultimately returning to Phulwari. In Bhagalpur, the network is expected to connect Kahalgaon, Nawagachia, Khagaria, Munger, Barauni, and Sultanganj, circling back to Bhagalpur.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary outlined further enhancements, including a new terminal at Patna Junction, a mega coaching terminal at Phulwari, and the construction of third and fourth tracks between Jhajha and Dehri-on-Sone (DDU). Additionally, double-tracking of the Bakhtiyarpur-Rajgir line has been approved, and the Sultanganj-Katoria new line had already received the green light.
The state also celebrated the inauguration of three new Amrit Bharat trains and four passenger services on Monday. During the event, MP Vivek Thakur revealed that a 25.10 km new line from Nawada to Pawapuri has been approved at an estimated cost of Rs 492.14 crore. The project aims to boost development in Nawada and Nalanda while enhancing tourism opportunities in the region.
The expansion is expected to ease travel between Parasnath and Pawapuri, strengthening direct connections that will also benefit religious tourism in Bihar’s Jain circuit. Improved connectivity between Rajgir and Bihar Sharif is another anticipated outcome, marking the initiative as a significant step in the state’s infrastructure development.
