Patna: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has invited bids for the development and upgradation of Muzaffarpur Airport, a long-pending demand in north Bihar, under an EPC contract estimated at Rs 28.58 crore.
The project includes the construction of a new terminal building, pre-engineered fire station and ATC tower, alongside other supporting facilities. The tender document stipulates an 11-month completion schedule, followed by a two-year defect liability period.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary hailed the move as a “new option for air service in Tirhut” and credited both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for advancing the long-awaited project. “Many congratulations to the residents of Muzaffarpur and the Tirhut region,” Chaudhary wrote on X.

Nilesh Ramchandra Deore, Special Secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat Department and Director of the Directorate of Civil Aviation, said the Bihar Flying Institute also plans to operate its satellite campus from the upgraded facility.
Officials said the project will enable operations of Code-2B type (small) aircraft under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN, creating new opportunities for both passenger services and pilot training in the region.
Tendering is being conducted online through the central public procurement portal, with bids to be finalised in the coming weeks.
