Patna: The Bhojpuri actor and singer Pawan Singh has been given Y+ security cover by the central government just weeks before the Bihar assembly elections, where he is expected to contest on a BJP ticket.
The Ministry of Home Affairs approved the decision, with officials confirming that Singh will now be accompanied at all times by a team of 11 security personnel, including armed commandos and personal security officers. The Y+ category, one tier below Z security, is reserved for individuals considered to face significant threats.
Singh, a popular Bhojpuri star often referred to as a “power star” by his fans, formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on October 5 after meeting party president JP Nadda and home minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Party sources have indicated that he may be fielded from either Ara or Karakat constituencies.
The announcement comes as Bihar prepares for a two-phase election, with voting scheduled for November 6 and 11. The Election Commission has set a target of 60% voter turnout.
Singh has remained in the headlines not only for his political entry but also for his ongoing dispute with his wife, Jyoti Singh. She has made allegations against the actor, recently appearing live on social media during a visit to his Lucknow residence, where she claimed she was under mental stress and contemplating suicide. Police were present at the location at the time.
