Patna: Amidst high-stakes campaigning for the ensuing Bihar Assembly elections, the Congress party on Thursday launched a scathing offensive against the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), releasing a detailed 42-page chargesheet documenting what it termed “twenty years of destruction” under the current regime.
The document systematically accuses the Nitish Kumar-led government of widespread failure, specifically alleging the severe deterioration of education, health, employment, and law and order in the state. The chargesheet also lists alleged acts of corruption by NDA ministers and officials and heavily targets the government on the contentious issue of labour migration out of Bihar.
The chargesheet was unveiled at a press conference at the Congress office in Patna’s Sadakat Ashram by three senior party observers: former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, and former MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.

Addressing the media, Ashok Gehlot asserted that the Bihar elections would prove pivotal in determining the country’s future trajectory. He alleged that unchecked corruption was the primary reason Bihar has lagged behind on all key development indicators.
“The Deputy Chief Minister and another minister stand accused of corruption, and they must provide answers to the public,” Gehlot stated. He further claimed the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report reveals financial irregularities amounting to Rs 70,000 crore. Targeting law and order, Gehlot cited the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, which indicates a staggering 323% increase in crime over the last two decades. Highlighting the economic plight, he added that approximately 3 crore people have been forced to migrate for employment.
Gehlot concluded by promising that the victory of the “All India Alliance” (the opposition coalition) would guarantee comprehensive development and a better future for Bihar.
Baghel Targets PM Modi on Retirement Age
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel joined the attack by taking aim at the leadership of the BJP.
“The BJP once enforced a retirement rule for leaders over 75 years of age, sidelining veterans like Advani and Joshi. Now, they too have turned 75,” Baghel remarked, directly referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s age. He also took a swipe at the state government’s performance, quipping that the “engine of the double engine government has started emitting smoke due to breakdown.”
Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury emphasised the gravity of the situation, stating that the opposition has commenced the crucial exercise to “save Bihar from destruction.”
