Saran: Vice President Dr. CP Radhakrishnan on Saturday visited Sitab Diara, the ancestral village of Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan in Bihar’s Saran district, to pay tribute on the leader’s birth anniversary. It marked the first-ever visit by an incumbent Vice President to the village.
During his 45-minute stay, Radhakrishnan garlanded JP’s statue and recalled the revolutionary’s contributions to India’s freedom struggle and democratic movements. He also interacted with residents, listening to their concerns regarding local infrastructure, healthcare, and employment.
One JP activist informed the Vice President about not receiving his pension, to which Radhakrishnan assured that he would direct the concerned authorities to address the issue.
Following his visit to the village, the Vice President attended a commemorative event at the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan Smriti Bhavan, where a large number of locals gathered to pay homage.
Born on October 11, 1902, Jayaprakash Narayan—widely known as JP—was a leading freedom fighter and social reformer. His daring escape from Hazaribagh jail remains a celebrated chapter in India’s history. After independence, JP distanced himself from political power and became a key figure in the Sarvodaya movement.
In 1974, he launched the call for “Total Revolution” with the slogan “Vacate the throne, the people are coming,” sparking a nationwide movement that reshaped Indian politics. Many future leaders, including Lalu Prasad Yadav, Nitish Kumar, late Ram Vilas Paswan, and late Sushil Kumar Modi, emerged from this transformative campaign.
