Mirganj/Patna: A woman was shot dead inside her home in Gopalganj on Sunday evening after unidentified assailants entered the residence of a BSF jawan and opened fire at close range. The killing, in Pandey Samail village under the Mirganj police station area, has triggered panic across the locality.
The victim, Savita Devi, was the mother of BSF jawan Munna Yadav. Police reached the spot soon after the shooting and sent the body to Sadar Hospital for a postmortem examination. Officers said they are investigating the case from multiple angles, with an old land dispute emerging as a primary line of inquiry.
According to officials, the attackers entered the house abruptly, leaving the family unable to react. Savita Devi died on the spot. The sudden burst of gunfire and news of the killing sent shockwaves through the village, where residents gathered as police began their inquiry.
SDPO Anand Mohan Gupta said: “At around 6pm, we received information about the murder of a woman in Pandey Samail village. A police team reached the spot and the postmortem has been conducted. Initial findings point to a dispute — possibly land-related. The exact cause will be confirmed after a full investigation.”
Police teams are conducting raids to locate suspects, while neighbours and relatives are being questioned. Investigators are also examining mobile phone records and scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area. Officers say a long-running rivalry over land remains a key angle.
A special team has been set up to identify those involved. While the motive has yet to be definitively established, police say the investigation is progressing and arrests are expected soon.
