Patna: The Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) has taken stringent measures against construction firms involved in projects, including Ganga Path and the double-decker flyover on Ashok Rajpath, imposing fines for violating air pollution norms.
In a statement released on Thursday, BSPCB highlighted the alarming increase in the Bihar ambient air quality index, signaling a concerning deterioration in air quality. The board emphasized its commitment to maintaining air quality standards and disclosed ongoing survey efforts by specialized teams across the state to identify sources of air pollution.
M/s Gawar Construction Limited, responsible for the Ashok Rajpath double-decker flyover project, and Navyuga Engineering Company Limited, overseeing the Ganga Path project, have been fined Rs. 4,37,000 each for failing to implement adequate measures to control air pollution during construction activities. Additionally, BSPCB issued a ‘Direction for Proposed Closure’ for both firms.
This recent enforcement action follows earlier penalties imposed by BSPCB. Sarvashree Vishal Infrastructure Limited, Sarvashree Ahluwalia Contracts (India) Limited, Bihar Veterinary College, and M/s S.P. Singla faced similar fines and ‘Direction for Proposed Closure’ notices for non-compliance with pollution control regulations. M/s Nagarjuna Construction Company Limited also faced penalties under the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.
Dr. D.K. Shukla, Chairman of BSPCB, underscored the importance of collective efforts to combat air pollution, urging the active participation of the public in these endeavors.
