Gopalganj: A major commotion broke out at the city court on Friday afternoon when a young woman climbed onto the roof of the building, accusing the police of failing to take action on her complaint against a man she says deceived and assaulted her. The unusual sight stunned lawyers and staff, who left their work to watch the tense situation unfold.
The woman, identified as Rambha Kumari from Tiwari Mathania village under the Vishambarpur police station area, had earlier lodged an FIR against a man from her village. She alleged that the man, with whom she was in a relationship, took her away from home and kept her with him for nearly 40 days. According to her complaint, after bringing her back, he assaulted her and threw her out of the house. Despite her FIR, she claimed that no arrest had been made, and repeated visits to the police station and senior officers had brought her no justice.
Frustrated by the lack of action, Rambha reached the court premises on Friday and climbed onto the roof and boundary wall. Her actions created a high-voltage drama inside the court compound, drawing a large crowd. Police officers posted there immediately informed the city police station. A team rushed to the spot, coaxed her down safely and took her into custody for questioning.
However, the matter took another turn when a police officer responsible for court security filed a complaint against her for disrupting court work. Acting on this, the city police registered an FIR against Rambha. Additional station head Zafaruddin Ali said she will be presented before the court after the case was filed, even as her original FIR against the accused man remains pending without arrest.
