Patna: The winter chill has tightened its grip on Bihar as westerly winds continue to push down temperatures across the state. Minimum temperatures have dropped by 2–3°C in the past 24 hours, and weather experts predict that both day and night temperatures will decline further in the coming days.
On Tuesday morning, several districts woke up to dense fog, significantly reducing visibility. Samastipur reported visibility levels as low as 100 meters, affecting road movement early in the day. Dense fog conditions were also recorded in Bettiah, Motihari, Patna, Gopalganj, Supaul, and Madhepura over the past 24 hours.
Residents were seen lighting bonfires to cope with the winter chill. Sabour emerged as the coldest location in the state at 7°C, with the temperature dropping by 1.3°C since Monday. In contrast, Kishanganj recorded the highest temperature at 28.1°C.
No Cold Wave Alert Yet
According to the Meteorological Centre, there is no cold wave warning for Bihar until December 15. The weather department has clarified that despite the falling temperatures, no advisory or alert has been issued for any district between December 9 and December 15.
The forecast suggests that daytime temperatures will remain near normal while night temperatures continue to slide gradually. Light fog is likely to intensify during morning hours, especially in North Bihar. The weather will remain dry throughout the week.
Cold Conditions Spread Across the State
A mild rise in cold weather has been observed in districts of North and East Bihar. Areas in Central and South Bihar have also experienced a slight increase in chilly conditions and fog.
Precautions Advised
Authorities have urged residents to adopt safety measures during the cold spell. The weather department has advised people—especially children and the elderly—to wear warm clothing during mornings and evenings and avoid exposure to cold winds. Motorists have been cautioned to drive slowly due to reduced visibility caused by fog.
Patna Weather Today
Patna experienced dense fog early on Monday followed by mild sunshine later in the day. Due to the continued flow of westerly winds, night temperatures have further dropped. The city recorded a minimum of 14.1°C in the past 24 hours.
Chilly weather will persist in the capital today as well. Although sunshine is expected during the afternoon, day temperatures will remain within normal range.
The winter season is expected to intensify gradually across Bihar, with residents preparing for colder nights and foggy mornings in the coming week.
