Patna: Bihar’s cyber police have arrested four people for cheating members of the public through a fake gaming application in Patna. The accused were operating from a rented house in RPG Colony under the Agamkuan police station area. Along with the four main accused, four minors involved in the gang were also apprehended during the raid. Police recovered 25 mobile phones, two laptops and four scanner machines from the house, indicating the scale of the operation.
The arrested men have been identified as Kundan Kumar, a resident of Paru in Muzaffarpur district; Dhanraj Kumar from Hilsa in Nalanda; Rakesh Kumar from Kalyanpur in East Champaran; and Golu Kumar from Parwalapur in Nalanda. According to the police, the gang had been targeting people through online platforms and luring them with promises of easy money through gaming apps.
The case came to light after several people lodged complaints with the cyber police, saying they had lost money after using a gaming application. Investigators began examining the mobile numbers and bank account details mentioned in these complaints. A technical analysis pointed towards RPG Colony South in the Agamkuan area. After confirming suspicious activity in the area, a special police team conducted a raid and detained eight people from the location.
During interrogation, the accused told police that they posted links and advertisements of gaming apps on social media platforms. When people clicked on these links, they were contacted through messaging apps and sent QR codes for payment. Once the money was transferred, the victims were cheated. Police also revealed that the gang was working under the direction of another person who arranged bank accounts and provided data in return for a commission. The cyber police are now tracing the flow of money and contacting account holders, while raids are underway to arrest the main mastermind behind the scam.
