Patna: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has become the first state board in the country to be awarded three ISO (International Organization for Standardization) certifications — a landmark achievement that its leadership says reflects a significant leap in quality, transparency, and digital record keeping.
Announcing the accomplishment in Patna on Saturday, board chairman Anand Kishor described the recognition as “a moment of pride for the entire state”, noting that the board’s examination processes, administrative systems, and information security protocols have now been aligned with internationally recognised standards.
BSEB has received certification for quality management systems (ISO 9001:2015), information security management (ISO/IEC 27001:2022), and records management systems (ISO 15489-1:2016) — making it the first Indian school board to hold all three simultaneously. All matriculation and intermediate records from 1983 through 2025 have been digitised and integrated into secure systems. Paperless processes, enhanced computerisation, and robust record-keeping protocols are intended to boost both efficiency and accountability.
Kishor also pointed to the board’s adoption of enterprise resource planning (ERP) and online systems for academic, financial, and administrative functions, alongside an E-Office framework that tracks file movements and safeguards data digitally. BSEB has established a high-capacity data centre to house student records and software applications securely.
Officials say the three certifications underscore improvements in how examinations are conducted and managed, as well as broader efforts to modernise and standardise operations at one of India’s largest school boards. The board’s efforts to modernise and secure its systems reflect broader trends in Indian education governance, where digital transformation and international standards are increasingly emphasised.
