Patna: Bihar is set to see a major improvement in road and rail connectivity, with plans to construct 217 railway overbridges (ROBs) and underbridges across the state. The initiative aims to eliminate long waiting times at railway crossings, easing traffic congestion and improving travel for residents.
The project traces its origins to a memorandum of understanding signed in 2019 between the Bihar government and the Ministry of Railways. Initially, the plan included the construction of 44 ROBs, with the Bihar State Bridge Construction Corporation responsible for 35 and the Bihar State Road Development Corporation handling nine. Tendering for 41 of these bridges has been completed, with the remaining three in progress.
Under the new expansion, the central government will fully fund the construction of all 217 ROBs and underbridges, removing any financial burden from the state government. Officials say the infrastructure development will significantly boost connectivity across Bihar, complementing ongoing efforts to lay new railway lines and strengthen transportation links between districts.
The project represents one of the largest recent investments in the state’s railway infrastructure, promising smoother road-rail interactions and greater convenience for daily commuters.
