Nawada: Villagers attacked a CBI team that arrived from Delhi to investigate the UGC NET paper leak case. Residents of Kasiyadih village assaulted the team and vandalized vehicles, believing the CBI team to be fake.
An FIR has been registered against eight named individuals and 150-200 unidentified people at Rajauli police station. Four people, including a woman, have been arrested and sent to jail.
The investigation team included four CBI officers, one of whom was a woman constable from the local police. Led by an inspector-rank officer, the team arrived in Kasiyadih village of Rajauli on Saturday, June 22.
The incident was reported to Rajauli police station around 4.30 pm, prompting SHO Inspector Rajesh Kumar to rush to the scene with additional forces. He managed to calm the villagers by explaining the situation. During the incident, the CBI seized two mobile phones.
The central government canceled the UGC-NET examination on Wednesday, June 19, following its administration a day earlier on June 18. On Thursday, Education Ministry Joint Secretary Govind Jaiswal stated, “We had not received any complaint of irregularities in UGC-NET, but we have taken cognizance on our own to protect the interests of the students.”
The exam was conducted in pen-and-paper mode in 83 subjects, held in two shifts on the same day. The first shift ran from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM, and the second shift from 3 PM to 6 PM. UGC Chairman M. Jagadesh Kumar noted that the exam was conducted in 317 cities across the country, with about 81% of the more than 11.21 lakh registered candidates appearing.
Previously, the UGC NET exam was an online computer-based test (CBT). This change to pen-and-paper mode was made to allow the exam to be conducted for all subjects and centers on the same day, including remote centers.
The UGC NET exam is conducted for PhD admissions, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), and the post of Assistant Professor in universities across India.
