Bihar: Man Shot Dead on Train During Journey from Patna to Gaya
Patna: A 55-year-old man was shot and killed aboard a train traveling from Patna to Gaya on Tuesday. This incident occurred between Potahi station and Neema Halt, where unidentified assailants entered the compartment and shot him at close range.
The deceased Jaiprakash Singh, also known as Bhola Sharma, had previously survived a shooting just 15 days ago and had been undergoing treatment at PMCH. On Tuesday, he was returning home to Masaurhi accompanied by his son Gulshan and nephew Shyam Kishore Sharma when the fatal attack took place.
Shyam Kishore Sharma, who witnessed the incident, recounted, “At the time, Gulshan had gone to the toilet. I was speaking on my mobile phone with my face towards the window. Suddenly, there was gunfire, causing panic. People started running, and I saw my uncle fall with blood coming from his neck.”
Gulshan Kumar, Bhola Sharma’s son, explained, “There was chaos after the gunfire, during which I was injured in the knee. When I reached my father, he was already wounded. Policemen in the adjacent bogie also fled after the shooting started.”
According to Gulshan, his father had significant property and had been grappling with alcoholism following his mother’s death. “I repeatedly advised him against wasting money, but he didn’t heed anyone’s advice,” he added.
Describing his father’s contentious nature, Gulshan stated, “He often quarreled with villagers over trivial matters, including a dispute over a nearby plot. Despite our efforts, he preferred isolation and had strained relations even at home.”
This incident followed a previous shooting on June 11, when Bhola Sharma sustained a gunshot wound to his hand. He had filed a complaint against his brother Chandrabhushan Sharma at Masaurhi police station in connection with that incident.
Mukesh Kumar, the station chief of Taregana GRP police station, confirmed, “A case has been registered based on the complaint filed by Jaiprakash Singh’s son against unknown assailants. CCTV footage from PMCH to Patna Junction is being scrutinized to ascertain whether the attackers conducted reconnaissance at the hospital or were already on the train.”
Police investigations are ongoing, focusing on both the recent tragedy and the earlier shooting incident. Further developments are expected as the case progresses.
