Patna: The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) has achieved a major breakthrough in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) teacher recruitment examination TRE 3.0 paper leak case with the arrest of a key accused linked to the alleged mastermind Sanjeev Mukhiya’s gang.
The arrested accused has been identified as Vipul Sharma, an active member of the gang and a wanted accused in the case. Police arrested him on Tuesday from Lal Bhavan located on Gola Road in Patna. Vipul Sharma is a resident of Daudnagar in Aurangabad district and had been absconding for nearly one-and-a-half years, officials said.
Network spread across multiple states
EOU Deputy Inspector General Manavjeet Singh Dhillon said the gang was not limited to Bihar but had an extensive network spread across Bihar, Jharkhand and Haryana. “The gang used to lure candidates with promises of clearing competitive examinations and extorted large sums of money from them. Each candidate was charged between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000,” he said.
Key role in paper leak conspiracy
According to the EOU investigation, Vipul Sharma played a crucial role in executing paper leak conspiracies in multiple examinations, ranging from the STET exam in Haryana to the BPSC TRE 3.0 examination in Bihar. Investigators said he assisted Sanjeev Mukhiya by establishing contacts in different states to facilitate the leaking of question papers and their distribution among candidates. His arrest has also yielded several critical leads for the agency, officials added.
290 arrests so far in the case
The EOU revealed that a total of 290 accused have been arrested so far in connection with the paper leak case. However, at least 10 other key suspects linked to the network are still at large.
Special teams deployed to nab remaining accused
To track down the remaining accused, the EOU has deployed Special Operations Group (SOG) teams. These teams are conducting continuous raids across multiple districts and states. Officials said efforts are underway to dismantle the entire network and bring all those involved in the paper leak racket to justice.
