Gayaji: The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has detained a Chilean national at Gaya International Airport after recovering GPS tracking devices from his hand baggage during a routine security check.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 12.45pm on Sunday, when the passenger, Wesley Andrés Farfán Watters, arrived at the airport to board Thai Airways flight TG-328 to Bangkok.
During X-ray screening at the international departure gate, a CISF screener noticed suspicious items in the passenger’s hand baggage. A subsequent physical search led to the recovery of two GPS tracking devices, one reportedly manufactured by Holux and the other by Garmin.
Security officials said the passenger was asked to produce official permission or valid documentation authorising him to carry the devices. When he failed to do so, the CISF concluded that aviation security norms had been violated. Carrying such devices without prior clearance is prohibited under existing aviation security regulations.
In view of the breach and provisions under AVSEC Order 11/2024, the CISF handed the passenger and the recovered equipment over to the local Magadh Medical Police Station for further legal action.
Police officials said an investigation was under way to determine the purpose for which the GPS trackers were being carried and whether the case was linked to any other suspicious activity
