Rajgir: The effort to establish an airport in the tourist town of Rajgir has resumed, with district authorities actively seeking a suitable site after the cabinet approved the proposal. Initially, a helipad near Mahadevpur and Nalanda University was considered, but the site did not meet the required length for an airport.
CO Anuj Kumar explained that 11,000 feet of land is necessary for the airport construction, while the Mahadevpur and Nalanda University site offers only 7,500 feet. This shortfall has prompted a search for alternative locations.
Potential sites have now been identified in Mayar, Badauna Mauza, Barnausa, and Lodipur Mauza. Preliminary measurements have been taken by Anchal Amin.
Additional Collector Manjeet Kumar, SDO Kumar Omkeswar, and Deputy Collector of Land Reforms Upendra Singh have inspected these new locations. The final decision will be made following an inspection by the District Magistrate.
Kumar mentioned that 550 acres of land between Meyar and Badauna Mauza have been shortlisted. This site spans 3.33 kilometers in length and 709 meters in width, providing a prospective airport length of 11,000 feet and a width of 2,000 feet.
The renewed efforts reflect a commitment to enhancing connectivity in Rajgir, a town known for its historical and cultural significance. The establishment of an airport is expected to boost tourism and economic growth in the region.
