Patna: Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar reviewed ongoing development work at Digha Tourism Ghat along the banks of the Ganga, directing officials to accelerate efforts to transform the site into a modern riverfront destination with improved public amenities.

During the inspection, officials from the tourism department briefed Kumar on plans to develop Janardan Ghat as a designated tourism hub. The chief minister instructed authorities to construct an integrated park at Digha and upgrade the existing structure into a permanent, well-paved ghat to ensure safer and more convenient access for visitors.

Kumar also called for proper arrangements to hold regular Ganga Aarti ceremonies, saying the initiative would enhance the cultural and spiritual appeal of the riverfront while attracting larger numbers of tourists. He emphasised that basic infrastructure such as seating areas, pathways and visitor facilities should be strengthened to provide a better experience for people arriving for leisure activities and river cruises.

Later, the chief minister inspected the construction of a new six-lane Ganga bridge being built parallel to the JP Setu. He directed officials to complete the project within the stipulated timeline, noting that the bridge would reduce traffic pressure on the existing structure and improve connectivity between north and south Bihar.

Senior officials, including the principal secretary to the chief minister Deepak Kumar, secretaries Kumar Ravi and Dr Chandrashekhar Singh, tourism secretary Nilesh Ramchandra Deore, municipal commissioner Yashpal Meena and district magistrate Dr Thyagarajan SM, were present during the visit.
