Patna: The Bihar government will organise special camps across the state to fast-track agricultural electricity connections and expand rooftop solar adoption among low-income households, as part of a broader push to strengthen power infrastructure and improve service reliability.
The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting chaired by Manoj Kumar Singh, secretary of the state energy department and chairman-cum-managing director of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited. Senior officials from both South Bihar and North Bihar power distribution companies attended the meeting at Vidyut Bhawan in Patna, where progress under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and other state-backed initiatives was assessed.
Officials said camps would be set up at division, sub-division and section levels to receive applications for agricultural electricity connections under the Chief Minister Agricultural Power Connection Scheme–II. The same camps will also collect consent forms from Kutir Jyoti consumers for the installation of rooftop solar panels at their homes. The department hopes the outreach will simplify procedures and improve participation, particularly in rural and economically weaker areas.
In the first phase of the programme, the government has set a target to install rooftop solar systems for around 250,000 Kutir Jyoti households. While consumers can currently submit their approval through the Suvidha mobile app, the department has directed each division to gather at least 5,000 consent forms through physical camps to accelerate implementation.
The energy secretary also stressed stricter oversight of ongoing infrastructure works, directing that all projects undergo inspection according to standard operating procedures before commissioning. Calling electricity services “highly sensitive” and essential for emergency and round-the-clock supply, he instructed officials to ensure quality at every stage, from poles and wires to transformers and substations. Headquarters teams will conduct surprise inspections to verify compliance and maintain standards.
The state government has set March 2026 as the deadline for completing projects under the ‘Saat Nischay–2’ programme, underscoring its focus on expanding reliable electricity access while integrating renewable energy into Bihar’s power network.
