Patna: Today marks the commencement of the monsoon session of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, scheduled to run from July 22 to 26. Ahead of the session, the Assembly Speaker convened a meeting with leaders and officials from all parties.

Expectations are high for a tumultuous session as the opposition gears up to confront the government on issues ranging from rising crime rates, paper leaks, to the crumbling infrastructure across the state. Simultaneously, the government is preparing to introduce crucial bills, including the Anti-Paper Leak Bill, among others.

The first day will feature the address by the Assembly Speaker, followed by the swearing-in of Shankar Singh, recently elected in the Rupauli by-polls, and the presentation of the supplementary budget by the state government.

During the session, discussions will focus on the policies of the ruling party and how the government plans to address the queries raised by the opposition in the Assembly. The ruling party’s lawmakers of the NDA alliance have also been called for a caucus meeting, while JD (U) lawmakers are set to convene at Minister Vijay Chaudhary’s residence.

A day before the session commenced, Secretary Rajkumar was transferred from his role as the Assembly’s Secretary to OSD of the Patna High Court, after serving as Secretary for just nine months. Khyati Singh will now oversee the proceedings as the Joint Secretary of the Assembly.
