Patna: A 70-year-old man was killed in a daylight attack in Patna City on Thursday morning, in an incident that has heightened concerns over public safety after footage of the assault was reportedly captured on CCTV.
Mohammad Raees was attacked at about 10.30am near the Vivekananda Colony crossing in the Chowk police station area. According to police, assailants struck him on the neck with a sharp-edged weapon, believed to be a chopper, causing fatal injuries. He died at the scene.
The killing, carried out in a busy part of the city, sparked panic among local residents and drew large crowds to the spot shortly after the attack.
Raees’s family has alleged that the murder was premeditated. His daughter, Shabnam Khatoon, told police she suspects a man identified as Mohammad Ayaz, also known locally as “Kufera Bhai”. She claimed the suspect had followed her father after he left home and had previously issued threats to kill him.
Police said a case has been registered and efforts are under way to trace the accused. Officers are reviewing CCTV footage from the area, which is believed to have captured the incident. A forensic science laboratory (FSL) team has also examined the crime scene to collect evidence.
Investigators said they are pursuing all possible angles and have stepped up efforts to arrest the suspect.
