Patna: RJD MLC Sunil Singh, ‘rakhi’ brother of Rabri Devi, has been expelled from the Bihar Legislative Council following recommendations from the Council’s Ethics Committee. The decision, accepted by Rambachan Rai, also resulted in the suspension of RJD MLC Qari Soheb for two days. Soheb had previously apologized for his actions, unlike Singh, who had not.
Sunil Singh, addressing the media, alleged that the report leading to his expulsion was motivated by personal ambitions of certain individuals, specifically pointing fingers at Devesh Chandra Thakur and Rambachan Rai. Singh claimed he was not given an opportunity to present his case and demanded action against the Chief Minister. This move came shortly after Singh’s removal from the position of BISCOMAUN Chairman.
The Ethics Committee of the Legislative Council recommended Singh’s expulsion due to his continuous absence from four consecutive meetings. Although he attended the fifth meeting, he did not respond to the allegations against him. The recommendation letter also highlighted Singh’s repeated statements against the Chief Minister and described his behavior as unparliamentary and contrary to democratic principles.
In his defence, Sunil Singh accused the Council of crafting a report to suppress the voices of the poor, farmers, and unemployed within the House. He criticized the Council’s actions as attempts to stifle dissent.
Minister Ashok Chaudhary clarified that the government had no involvement in the decision to expel Singh. He emphasized that the action was taken by the Legislative Council based on the Ethics Committee’s report. Chaudhary questioned why Rambali Chandravanshi, an extremely backward MLC, was not subjected to similar action.
Sunil Singh was a prominent supporter of Lalu’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, during her debut election campaign for the Saran Lok Sabha seat. Singh, a resident of Chhapra, played a crucial role in managing Acharya’s election efforts, including her nomination, campaign, and voting day activities.
Following the Ethics Committee’s recommendations and the recent actions against him, Sunil Singh has been removed from his role as BISCOMAUN Chairman and faces potential cancellation of his Legislative Council membership.
