Patna: Patna Women’s College held its fourth convocation ceremony on Tuesday at the Veronica Auditorium in Patna, conferring degrees on graduates from across its faculties in the presence of senior academics and guests.
The ceremony began at 11.30am with an academic procession that included members of the governing body, the academic council, deans and the principal. The event was formally declared open by Prof Namita Singh, vice-chancellor of Patna University.
A traditional lamp-lighting ceremony was led by the principal, Dr Sister M Rashmi A.C., alongside the chief guest, Prof Sanjay Srivastava, vice-chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Central University, and other dignitaries. The college anthem followed, along with the felicitation of guests.
In her welcome address, Rashmi thanked faculty members, parents and students, and outlined future plans for the college, including the construction of a new administrative block and the introduction of a department of law.
Gold medals were presented to meritorious students from the bachelor’s (2022–25) and master’s (2023–25) cohorts. Degrees were awarded to graduates from the faculties of arts and humanities, science, commerce and management, and education.
Delivering the convocation address, Srivastava congratulated the graduates and urged them to uphold integrity and commit to lifelong learning. Referring to Patna University’s motto, “Sa Vidya Vimuktaye”, and the college’s guiding principle, “Always Wise”, he linked higher education to philosophical traditions associated with the teachings of the Buddha.
In her presidential address, Singh highlighted the importance of higher education and women’s empowerment in nation-building and administered the oath to the graduating students, formally marking the completion of their studies.
The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by the vice-principal, Dr Sister M Tanisha A.C., followed by the national anthem and the departure of the academic procession.
