Patna: The tender for the Sherpur–Kanhouli six-lane road, a crucial segment of the proposed Patna Ring Road, has been opened by the National Highways Authority of India, paving the way for the selection of a construction agency. Work on the 9 km stretch is expected to begin once the contract is awarded. The project is estimated to cost Rs 777.79 crore and is seen as a significant boost to road infrastructure in Bihar.
The development follows months of delay caused by funding constraints. Officials said the cost of construction will be shared equally between the state and central governments. The project had stalled after the state government failed to release its 50% share of the funds. With approval now granted and the allocation made, the tender process has moved ahead.
Authorities have begun the process of land acquisition between Sherpur and Kanhouli. Notices are being issued to affected landowners, and compensation will be transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts after verification of documents. District officials say the acquisition process is being carried out in accordance with established norms to minimise disruption.
The ring road will combine greenfield construction with the widening of existing roads. In Bihta block, landowners in Painal, Kanhouli, Parkhotimpur Kothi, Mustafapur and Hiramnpur have been identified. In Maner block, the affected villages include Mustafapur Mauli, Rasulpur Bijaygopal, Harshankarpur Narhanna, Rasulpur Bijaygopal Milki, Balua and Santar.
Officials say the new road will benefit three districts — Patna, Saran and Vaishali — by easing congestion and improving connectivity. Plans also include the construction of a new bus station, to be known as Patli Bus Terminal, on around 50 acres in Kanhouli Mauza under Police Station No 69. Authorities have stated that no residential homes are expected to be displaced as part of the land acquisition for the terminal.
