Patna: A meeting of the District Environment Committee took place on Wednesday in the Collectorate’s meeting hall, chaired by District Magistrate (DM) Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh. The meeting focused on advancing the District Environment Plan, with Member Secretary- cum- Divisional Forest Officer Gaurav Ojha presenting an agenda-wise report.
The District Environment Plan, developed under the guidance of the Bihar State Pollution Control Board, Patna, aims to enhance environmental standards across the district. Dr. Singh praised the district’s solid waste management efforts in rural areas, highlighting the establishment of waste management plants and efficient door-to-door collection systems.
In his directives, Dr. Singh urged the General Manager of the District Industries Center to actively promote fly ash management. He also instructed the Mineral Development Officer to support environmentally friendly practices in mining operations.
Addressing biomedical waste, Dr. Singh emphasized the need for scientific disposal methods that comply with sustainable and environmentally friendly standards. He stressed that strict adherence to biomedical waste disposal protocols is essential.
Dr. Singh outlined the primary objectives of the District Environment Plan, including improving environmental quality, implementing responsible waste management practices, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards. He called for enhanced inter-departmental coordination and commitment from all stakeholders to address environmental challenges effectively.
The plan, he noted, provides a robust framework for monitoring and improving environmental standards through scientific data analysis. Dr. Singh highlighted the need for continuous efforts on issues such as infrastructure gaps, solid and fluid waste management, and sewage treatment.
Concluding the meeting, Dr. Singh stressed the urgency of both short-term and long-term measures for environmental protection, urging all officials to work in a mission-mode approach and demonstrate sensitivity toward environmental issues.
The meeting was attended by key officials, including the Deputy Development Commissioner, Divisional Forest Officers, Additional District Magistrate General, representatives from the Bihar State Pollution Control Board, District Agriculture Officer, and others.
