Patna: Major industrial investments have begun operations in Buxar, marking a significant push toward manufacturing-led growth in the region. A cement factory and a beverage bottling plant—together costing Rs 1,700 crore—were inaugurated, promising employment and improved industrial capacity.
The cement unit, established by JK Cement Ltd., has been built in the Brahmapur Industrial Area across roughly 100 acres. With an annual production capacity of three million tonnes, company officials say the plant will enhance the availability of construction materials in Bihar and neighbouring states, potentially supporting infrastructure development.
A second project— a bottling facility of Coca-Cola Company franchisee SLMG Beverages Private Limited—has been set up on 65 acres in Nawanagar. The plant is expected to produce up to 324,000 cases of cold drinks daily, reducing dependence on supplies transported from other states and expanding local manufacturing.
The projects were inaugurated by Samrat Choudhary, who framed the developments as part of the state government’s broader industrial strategy. Authorities claim the initiatives will create direct and indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, logistics and ancillary services.
Officials have said that under the government’s new industrial policy, investment incentives are aimed at attracting large-scale enterprises and generating jobs. The administration has pledged to create ten million employment opportunities over the next five years, arguing that industrial expansion will be central to meeting that target.
Local business groups have welcomed the projects, suggesting they could stimulate economic activity in surrounding areas. Critics, however, note that long-term benefits will depend on sustained infrastructure investment and workforce training.
The opening of these factories signals a broader shift in the region’s economic landscape, though observers caution that industrial growth must be balanced with environmental and social considerations.
