Patna: Thunderstorms accompanied by rain and lightning are expected in parts of Bihar over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing warnings for several districts across the state.
According to the meteorological centre in Patna, isolated thunderstorms and rainfall may occur at one or two locations in Patna district on Monday. Winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 40km/h during this period.
The department has issued a broader warning for thunderstorms, rain and isolated lightning in 32 districts of Bihar.
Weather officials said there is a strong likelihood of thunderstorms in seven districts in the northeastern region of the state, while several districts in the southeastern region may also experience rainfall and lightning.
The forecast indicates that thunderstorms and rain could affect five districts in southeastern Bihar and seven districts in northeastern Bihar on Tuesday. By Wednesday, similar weather conditions may extend to 14 districts in north Bihar.
Temperature readings across the state showed fluctuations on Sunday, with maximum temperatures declining slightly while minimum temperatures increased in many cities.
The maximum temperature across Bihar ranged between 28.1C and 34.8C, while minimum temperatures ranged from 17.5C to 23.4C.
Kaimur recorded the highest temperature in the state at 34.8C, while the lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 17.5C in Agwanpur in Saharsa district.
In Purnia, the weather remained dry on Sunday, although the afternoon heat was noticeable, prompting many residents to use fans for relief. Light cloud cover throughout the day created intermittent sunshine and shade.
According to the IMD, the district recorded a minimum temperature of 20.2C and a maximum of 32.9C on Sunday. The forecast suggests partly cloudy skies over the next 24 hours, with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds likely in some areas between March 9 and March 10.
In Gaya, temperatures have been gradually rising as well. The sun has been strong since morning in recent days, and the afternoon heat has become more noticeable.
The maximum temperature in Gaya reached 33.5C on Sunday, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 19.4C. On Saturday, the maximum temperature stood at 32.6C and the minimum at 18.8C.
Weather data also suggests that the first week of March this year has been warmer than in the past two years. In the first week of March 2025, the maximum temperature did not cross 31C, while the highest temperature in early March 2024 was recorded at 28.8C on March 4.
