Bhagalpur: The Bharatiya Janata Party in Bihar has welcomed the approval of a rail bypass line in Bhagalpur, describing it as a significant step towards easing congestion and accelerating regional development.
Dr Preeti Shekhar, the party’s state spokesperson, thanked Narendra Modi and railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for clearing the project. She also credited Nishikant Dubey for pushing the initiative, calling it an “important decision” for the region.
Easing pressure on Bhagalpur station
According to Shekhar, rising passenger numbers at Bhagalpur Railway Station have placed increasing pressure on infrastructure. The proposed bypass line is expected to divert traffic and streamline train operations, improving passenger convenience.
She said the project would help decongest the station while ensuring smoother movement of trains across the network.
Boost to religious and regional development
The bypass is also expected to support the development of nearby areas, including Sabour Railway Station. Shekhar noted that religious sites such as Gonudham could see increased footfall, enhancing tourism potential.
She described the decision as a “major gift” to Bhagalpur under the centre and state’s “double-engine government” framework.
Economic opportunities and trade
The BJP leader said the project would generate both direct and indirect employment in areas such as Sabour, Zeromile and surrounding المناطق. Improved rail connectivity is expected to benefit farmers and traders by enabling faster transport of agricultural produce.
Local products — including Katarni rice from Jagdishpur, chuda, and fruits such as mangoes and litchis from Sabour — are likely to gain easier access to larger markets, potentially boosting incomes.
Towards urban expansion
Shekhar added that improved infrastructure could accelerate Bhagalpur’s transformation into a major urban centre. Enhanced connectivity, she said, would strengthen the city’s prospects of emerging as a metropolitan hub in the coming years.
