Muzaffarpur: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday conducted an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Muzaffarpur-Hajipur bypass, part of the four-lane NH 77 in Muzaffarpur. During his visit to the Pakri-Patahi section of the bypass, the Chief Minister assessed the progress of the work and urged officials to expedite its completion.
Following the site visit, CM Nitish reviewed the project in detail, where Additional Chief Secretary of the Road Construction Department, Pratyaya Amrit, provided a comprehensive presentation on the bypass’s development. Amrit explained that the decision to build the Muzaffarpur-Hajipur bypass was made in 2010, but the project faced delays due to land acquisition and other challenges, with actual work commencing in 2012. The remaining construction is expected to be finished by November.
During the review, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for swift completion of the remaining sections, noting that the 17-kilometre bypass would significantly ease travel within Muzaffarpur, reducing travel time and improving connectivity to key routes, including the East-West Corridor. The new bypass will benefit commuters traveling to Uttar Pradesh via Gopalganj and to Sonvarsha from Sitamarhi, while also easing traffic congestion in Muzaffarpur.
The project is also expected to facilitate easier travel between Patna and Nepal, as well as for vehicles coming from NH 527-C, the road connecting Majhauli to Nepal.
In addition to the bypass inspection, Nitish visited the under-construction Turki police station in Sakri-Saraiya. During a program at the Turki police station premises, he inaugurated several newly constructed police buildings in Muzaffarpur district, including the Model Police Station Buildings at Jajuar and Hatha, and the SC-ST Special Police Station Building, which were built at a total cost of Rs. 15.03 crore. The Chief Minister also laid the foundation stone for seven new police buildings, including six police stations, with a budget of Rs. 32.76 crore.
Furthering his commitment to sustainable initiatives, CM Nitish inaugurated the foundation of grid-connected rooftop solar power plants at several police stations under the ‘Water-Life-Greenery’ campaign, including at Turki, Kathaiya, Rampur Hari, Panapur, Mahila, Benibad, and Bela police stations.
During the event, the Chief Minister visited stalls set up by various departments and distributed cheques to beneficiaries of different schemes. He also provided tricycles to disabled individuals and symbolic cheques amounting to Rs. 6.95 crore to 1,479 beneficiaries of the Sustainable Livelihood Scheme, as well as to those benefiting from the Marriage Incentive Scheme.
Key officials present during the inspection and subsequent events included Panchayati Raj Minister Kedar Prasad Gupta, Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Deepak Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Road Construction Department Pratyaya Amrit, and other senior officers from the Tirhut Division and Muzaffarpur district.
