Patna: The Election Commission of India on Thursday announced a by-election to fill a vacant seat in the Bihar Legislative Council under the assembly quota, following the resignation of Mangal Pandey.
The seat fell vacant after Pandey was elected to the Bihar legislative assembly, prompting the poll body to issue a formal notification for the by-election.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to field Deepak Prakash, son of Upendra Kushwaha, a former Union minister and chief of the Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLMO), as its candidate. An official announcement from the alliance is anticipated shortly.
