Gayaji: Passengers travelling via Gaya Junction are set to face major inconvenience over the next 20 days as the railway administration has announced a “Mega Block” to carry out extensive repair and technical upgrade work.
The block will remain in effect from April 27 to May 16, while the work is scheduled to begin from midnight on April 26. During this period, several trains will witness changes in platforms, routes, and timings.
Railway officials said the work on Platform No. 1 and its associated tracks is already underway and is aimed at improving train operations and ensuring better safety standards in the future.
Platform No. 2 to Handle Major Traffic
With Platform No. 1 under maintenance, Platform No. 2 will serve as the primary hub for train operations. Premium trains, including several Rajdhani Express services, will now depart from Platform No. 2.
Key trains such as Howrah–New Delhi Rajdhani, Ranchi–New Delhi Rajdhani, Sealdah Rajdhani, Kolkata Rajdhani, Jodhpur Express, and Doon Express will operate from Platform No. 2, leading to increased passenger crowding.
The railway administration has stated that additional arrangements are being made to manage the rush at the platform.
Several Trains Diverted
During the Mega Block, routes of some trains have been changed, and they will bypass Gaya Junction entirely.
- 03253 (Patna–Chopan TOD): Diverted from April 27 to May 16
- 03254 (Chopan–Patna TOD): Diverted from April 29 to May 14
- 03255 (Chopan–Patna TOD): Diverted from May 1 to May 14
Passengers travelling on these routes are advised to plan their journey accordingly as these trains will not stop at Gaya.
Manpur Junction to Act as Temporary Terminal
Train services between Gaya and Kamakhya will also be affected.
- 15619 (Gaya–Kamakhya): Will originate from Manpur from April 28 to May 16
- 15620 (Kamakhya–Gaya): Will terminate at Manpur between April 27 and May 16
Passengers will need to arrange alternate transport between Gaya and Manpur during this period.
Delays and Rescheduling to Affect Daily Commuters
Train numbers 63245 and 63289 (Patna–Gaya–Dehri MEMU) will run on revised timings. Train 63245 will depart from Patna with a delay of 105 minutes, which may cause inconvenience to regular commuters, especially students and office-goers.
Fewer Coaches, More Crowding Expected
The railway administration has also reduced the number of coaches in some trains, raising concerns about overcrowding.
- 13349/13350 (Singrauli–Patna): Reduced from 20 to 18 coaches
- Other affected trains include 13243/13244 and 53213/53214
Passengers may face difficulty in securing seats and could experience uncomfortable journeys due to increased crowding.
Advisory Issued for Passengers
Railways have urged passengers to check train schedules, platform numbers, and running status before starting their journey. Travellers are also advised to reach the station early and make alternative arrangements where necessary.
While the Mega Block is expected to cause short-term inconvenience, officials maintain that the upgrade work will result in smoother and safer train operations in the future.
