Patna: The Bihar cabinet has approved a proposal to establish a Centre of Excellence for Autism in Patna, aimed at strengthening diagnosis, treatment and research related to autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
The facility will be developed in Gardanibagh, where around 4.55 acres of land—earmarked under the city’s master plan for a multi-specialty hospital—has been allocated for the project.
Addressing Rising Cases
Officials said the move comes in response to a growing number of children affected by autism, a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition that impacts communication, social interaction and learning abilities.
The proposed centre will focus on early diagnosis, therapeutic interventions, specialised training and research.
Statewide Screening Plan
Authorities said the initiative will also support the creation of a structured screening system, extending from block level to the state level, to identify autism and related developmental conditions at an early stage.
Improved Access To Care
The government said the centre will provide advanced medical and support services within the state, reducing the need for families to seek treatment outside Bihar.
Officials added that the project is expected to enhance both healthcare infrastructure and awareness around developmental disorders, while offering better support to affected children and their families.
