Patna: Instagram has rolled out a new feature designed to help users deal with the growing problem of spam and fake followers on the platform. Over the past few years, many Instagram users have complained about unknown accounts, bots and suspicious profiles following them without permission. These accounts often create concerns about privacy, online safety and fake engagement. To address these issues, Instagram has now introduced tools that make it easier to identify and remove spam followers directly from the app.
The company has added a special section called “Potential Spam” inside the followers list. This section automatically collects accounts that Instagram’s system believes may be fake or suspicious. Earlier, users had to manually check every follower one by one, which was both time-consuming and difficult, especially for people with large follower counts. With the new update, users can now quickly review suspicious accounts in one place and decide whether they want to keep or remove them.
To use the feature, users need to open their Instagram profile and go to their followers list. There, they can find the “Potential Spam” section showing accounts flagged by Instagram. If a user believes an account is genuine, they can keep it. However, if the account looks fake or suspicious, it can be removed immediately. Instagram has also introduced a “Remove All Spam Followers” option, allowing users to delete multiple spam accounts at once instead of removing them individually.
Another important part of the update is privacy. Instagram has confirmed that accounts removed from the spam list will not receive any notification informing them that they were removed. This allows users to clean up their followers privately and comfortably without creating unnecessary interactions. The feature is expected to help users maintain a safer and more trusted online environment.
Instagram has also provided users with the option to control the spam filter manually. Users can go to “Settings and Privacy,” then open the “Followers” section and turn the “Filter Spam Followers” option on or off whenever they want. The new feature comes at a time when social media platforms are facing increasing pressure to tackle fake accounts, scams and harmful online activity more effectively.
