Patna: Following the recent cabinet expansion of the Bihar government led by Samrat Choudhary, the state’s Building Construction Department has finalised the allocation of official residences for ministers, issuing a formal order on Monday.
Eight first-time ministers in the new cabinet have been assigned fresh government bungalows, while residences previously allotted to 26 ministers have been retained and regularised with effect from April 15.
Nishant Kumar Gets High-Profile 2 Deshratna Marg Residence
Health Minister Nishant Kumar has been allotted the bungalow at 2 Deshratna Marg in Patna, one of the most prominent addresses in the state capital’s VIP zone. The allocation has drawn attention in political circles, where the residence is widely viewed as symbolically significant.
The decision has also sparked discussion within administrative and political corridors about Nishant Kumar’s growing profile in the current government setup.
Key Allocations Across Harding Road and Gardanibagh
Several other ministers have also been assigned new residences in Patna’s designated ministerial zones.
Planning and Development Minister Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha has been allotted the 13/20 duplex bungalow in Gardanibagh. Road Construction Minister Kumar Shailendra will reside at 12 Harding Road.
Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Nandkishore Ram has been allotted 21 Harding Road, while Energy Minister Shailesh Kumar (Bulo Mandal) has been assigned 33 Harding Road.
Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari has received the bungalow at 13 Harding Road, and Social Welfare Minister Shweta Gupta has been allotted 15 Harding Road.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Ramchandra Prasad has been given the 10/20 duplex bungalow in Gardanibagh.
The Harding Road and Deshratna Marg stretches are widely regarded as Patna’s premier ministerial and bureaucratic enclave.
Residences Retained for Senior Ministers
The government has retained earlier allotted residences for 26 ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and senior leader Bijendra Prasad Yadav. Officials said the decision was taken in view of administrative convenience.
Political Signalling and Perception
Ministerial bungalow allocations have long been closely watched in Bihar politics, often interpreted as informal indicators of status within the government hierarchy.
Political observers say the latest reshuffle of residences is already being discussed within political circles, with attention focused on which ministers have been placed in the most prominent government addresses.
The newly appointed ministers are expected to begin functioning from their respective official residences in the coming days as departmental work is formalised.
