Saran/Patna: Three people died in a road accident involving a truck and an auto-rickshaw near Purab Sonia bridge under Daudpur police station limits in Saran district on Thursday morning.
According to police and local residents, the auto-rickshaw was running towards Ekma from Chhapra when it collided head-on with a speeding truck on NH-531.
One person died at the scene, while two others succumbed to injuries on way to the Ekma Community Health Centre for treatment.
Victims yet to be identified
Police said the identities of the deceased have not yet been established.
Local residents told officials that musical instruments were found inside the auto-rickshaw, leading to speculation that the victims may have been associated with a cultural or musical programme. Police said this aspect is also being examined as part of the investigation.
The bodies have been sent to Chhapra Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
Vehicles seized, probe underway
Daudpur police reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and shifted the injured to hospital. The damaged truck and auto-rickshaw have been seized.
The station house officer of Daudpur police station said the circumstances leading to the collision are being investigated.
“Three people died in the accident and efforts are being made to identify them. Police are investigating the matter in detail,” the officer said.
Traffic disrupted after accident
Traffic movement on NH-531 remained affected for some time after the collision as local residents gathered at the site.
Residents raised concerns over frequent accidents on the highway and called for stricter enforcement against overspeeding and improved safety measures in accident-prone stretches.
Earlier this month, on May 8, three people were killed and six others injured in a separate collision involving a truck and a pickup vehicle on the same highway in the Daudpur area.
