Rajgir: A district-level philately exhibition titled Nalandapex was inaugurated on Wednesday at Nalanda University, showcasing rare stamps and promoting the rich history of India through the art of stamp collection. Bihar’s Minister of Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs, Shrawan Kumar, inaugurated the event, while Nalanda MP Kaushlendra Kumar, served as the chief guest. The exhibition, organised by the Postal Department, Nalanda Division, is set to run for two days.
To mark the occasion, a special cover commemorating Nalanda University was released. Among the notable attendees were MLA Kaushal Kishore, Chief Postmaster General of Bihar Anil Kumar, Nalanda University’s Interim Vice Chancellor Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh, and Director General of the Ordnance Factory, Anil Kumar Gupta. Nalanda University Registrar, Ramesh Pratap Singh Parihar, was also present.
The first day saw enthusiastic participation from around 900 students from local schools, competing in activities such as letter writing, stamp designing, quizzes, painting, and cultural performances, all organised by the postal department.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Shrawan Kumar highlighted the significance of philately, describing it as “not just a hobby but a means to connect with the country’s heritage.” He expressed hope that the exhibition would inspire curiosity and learning among young students, fostering a greater understanding of India’s historical legacy.
Interim Vice Chancellor Prof. Abhay Kumar Singh echoed these sentiments, stating that promoting cultural heritage through events like this encourages the younger generation to explore creative and intellectual pursuits. “Philately plays a vital role in preserving inquisitiveness,” he added.
The exhibition will continue through Thursday, offering attendees more opportunities to explore rare and historic stamps.
