Patna: The Bihar government has approved Rs. 40 crore for the construction and development of a new campus for Pataliputra University in Bakhtiyarpur.
According to an order issued by the Higher Education Department, the funds will be utilised during the 2026–27 financial year for building infrastructure and developing the university’s identified land parcel.
Officials said the latest allocation is expected to accelerate work on the university’s permanent campus project.
Funds allocated under two schemes
As per the departmental order:
- Rs. 30 crore has been sanctioned under the university development head
- Rs. 10 crore has been allocated under the Scheduled Caste Special Component Plan
The government said the objective is to develop a modern campus equipped with improved academic and administrative facilities.
Total project cost estimated at RS. 219.21 crore
The total estimated cost of the Bakhtiyarpur campus project has been fixed at Rs. 219.21 crore.
The state government had previously released:
- Rs. 2.48 crore during 2023–24
- Rs. 25 crore in July 2024
- Rs. 25 crore in May 2025
With the latest approval, the cumulative funding released for the project has increased further, raising expectations of faster construction progress.
Infrastructure corporation to oversee implementation
The project will be implemented through the Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited.
The Higher Education Department has issued instructions to ensure construction quality and transparency in the utilisation of funds.
Officials said utilisation certificates for the expenditure will be submitted by the corporation to the Director of Higher Education and subsequently forwarded to the office of the Accountant General.
The government has also stated that the sanctioned amount cannot be diverted for any other purpose.
University expects academic expansion
Pataliputra University Vice-Chancellor Prof Upendra Prasad Singh said the new campus would help expand academic activities and improve the learning environment for students.
He said the proposed infrastructure, including modern buildings and upgraded facilities, would strengthen higher education capacity in Bihar.

Officials said the planned campus is expected to provide better classrooms, administrative buildings, academic resources and other modern amenities.
The government believes the development of a permanent campus in Bakhtiyarpur will help Pataliputra University strengthen its position among Bihar’s major higher education institutions.
