Munger: The Ganga River has swollen to dangerous levels in Munger, flooding five blocks of the district and severely affecting daily life, including education. Floodwaters have entered 51 schools across the affected areas, halting teaching and learning activities.
In one particularly striking scene, teachers at the Primary School Ghatwa Tola Bochahi in Jamalpur block were seen working on the roadside. Due to floodwaters rising to 4 to 5 feet in their school, the teachers have set up tables and chairs on the Bariyarpur-Munger main road (NH-80), right in front of the submerged building.
The flood entered the school on Thursday morning, forcing headmaster Prabhat Ranjan and teachers Prem Kumar and Prashant Kumar to dismiss the students for safety. However, the educators continued their duties on the road, surprising passersby.
“We are sitting here on the road to complete our online attendance,” headmaster Prabhat Ranjan said. “The school is flooded, and we can’t go near it, but we have to follow the department’s orders and carry out our responsibilities. We’ve informed the authorities about this situation, and we will act according to their instructions.”
District Education Officer Mohammad Asgar Ali confirmed that the flood has impacted multiple schools in the district, and the matter has been reported to the District Magistrate (DM) and the Education Department. “We are waiting for further instructions and will proceed accordingly,” he said.
As the Ganga River continues to flood Munger’s low-lying areas, residents and local authorities brace for more challenges in the days ahead.
