Patna: Bihar is set to witness another sharp shift in weather conditions, with the state simultaneously facing heatwave conditions in some regions and forecasts of thunderstorms and rainfall in others.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for thunderstorms, rain and strong winds across Bihar over the next two days, while warning that intense heat is likely to continue in several districts until May 24.
Strong Winds And Rain Forecast Across Bihar
According to the IMD, several districts are likely to experience:
- Thunderstorms
- Lightning activity
- Light to moderate rainfall
- Strong winds ranging from 50 to 70 kmph
Officials said weather conditions could become particularly severe on May 25, when wind speeds may touch 70 kmph in some areas during intense thunderstorm activity.
Heatwave Conditions Continue In Several Areas
Despite the forecast for rainfall, heatwave conditions are expected to persist across parts of Bihar over the next few days.
Officials said:
- Patna is likely to experience heat accompanied by thunderstorms
- Purnia may receive rainfall with thunder and lightning
- Muzaffarpur is expected to witness storm activity
- Bhagalpur could also receive rain and lightning-related weather disturbances
Meteorologists said the combination of rising humidity and above-normal temperatures was intensifying discomfort across the state.

Heavy Rainfall Recorded In Parts Of Bihar
Over the past 24 hours, several districts recorded heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.
According to IMD data:
- Jhanjharpur in Madhubani district recorded 9cm rainfall
- Lakhnaur in Madhubani district recorded 7cm rainfall
Officials said the rainfall brought temporary relief from heat in some areas while also causing localised disruption in others.
Temperatures Remain Above Normal
The weather department said both daytime and nighttime temperatures across several parts of Bihar remained above seasonal averages.
Officials noted that elevated temperatures combined with moisture in the atmosphere were increasing heat and humidity levels, making weather conditions more uncomfortable.
IMD Forecast For May 22–28
According to the IMD’s weekly forecast for May 22 to May 28, Bihar is expected to experience a mixed weather pattern throughout the week.
Forecast conditions include:
- Scattered light to moderate rainfall
- Thunderstorms and lightning
- Wind speeds of 40–50 kmph in several districts
- Possibility of stronger gusts during severe storm activity
Special Alert Issued For May 25
Weather officials said May 25 could witness particularly intense weather activity across parts of the state.
The IMD warned of:
- Severe thunderstorms
- Thunder and lightning
- Winds reaching 50–60 kmph
- Gusts potentially touching 70 kmph
- Light to moderate rainfall
Residents have been advised to remain alert during storm activity and avoid open areas during lightning and high winds.
