Patna: The elections for Empowered Standing Committees across 14 municipal bodies in Bihar will be held on May 29 and May 30, with the entire process scheduled to be completed in a single day for each phase, according to the district administration.
In Patna, preparations were reviewed on Tuesday by District Election Officer (Municipality) and District Magistrate Dr Thiyagarajan S M, who directed officials to ensure a fair, transparent and peaceful conduct of the election process in line with prescribed guidelines.
Election Schedule Across Municipal Bodies
As per the official schedule, six municipal bodies will go to polls on May 29. These include Mokama Nagar Parishad, Punpun Nagar Panchayat, Bikram Nagar Panchayat, Khusrupur Nagar Panchayat, Bihta Nagar Parishad and Sampatchak Nagar Parishad.
On May 30, elections will be held in eight municipal bodies, including Bakhtiyarpur Nagar Parishad, Barh Nagar Parishad, Masaurhi Nagar Parishad, Paliganj Nagar Panchayat, Fatuha Nagar Parishad, Naubatpur Nagar Panchayat, Maner Nagar Panchayat and the Patna Municipal Corporation.
Polling Arrangements and Venues
The district administration has designated specific polling stations for each municipal body. These include block offices, sub-divisional offices and other administrative buildings across the district.
For Bakhtiyarpur, the Conference Hall on the second floor of the Block Office has been designated as the polling venue. In Barh, voting will take place at the Assembly Hall on the third floor of the Sub-divisional Office.
Other locations include block office auditoriums in Mokama, Punpun, Fatuha, Maner and Khusrupur, as well as sub-divisional offices in Masaurhi and Paliganj. Separate arrangements have been made in Bikram, Naubatpur, Bihta and Sampatchak at designated administrative rooms and RTPS halls.
For the Patna Municipal Corporation, voting will be conducted on the fourth floor of the District Development Building (Zila Vikas Bhawan) within the Patna Collectorate complex.
Committee Structure and Voting Process
Under the revised system, seven members will be elected in the Patna Municipal Corporation, while three members each will be elected in the remaining municipal bodies.
Officials confirmed that voting will be conducted through a secret ballot, marking a procedural shift introduced under the Bihar Municipalities (Amendment) Act, 2026.
Earlier, Standing Committees were formed through nomination, but the new system introduces a direct electoral process involving councillors, making the selection more participatory.
Administrative Preparedness
A review meeting held in Patna was attended by Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena, Deputy Development Commissioner Shubham Kumar and other senior officials.
Authorities have instructed that the entire process—including nomination, voting and swearing-in—will be completed in continuity without any break, beginning from 8 am on the scheduled dates.
Officials said notices have already been issued to councillors across all concerned municipal bodies, ensuring their participation in the electoral process.
