Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar chaired a high-level review meeting of the Home Department at ‘Sankalp’ located at 1 Anne Marg, where he provided key directives to officers regarding law and order in the state. He emphasized that maintaining law and order remains the government’s top priority, and any negligence in crime control would not be tolerated.

The Chief Minister instructed that the recruitment of police officers, particularly for the 35 percent of reserved posts for women, should be expedited. He noted that an increase in women in the police force has had a positive impact, with more than 30,000 women now serving in the Bihar Police. The inclusion of women has not only enhanced law enforcement but also boosted the confidence of women seeking assistance at police stations.

He highlighted that the role of the police in maintaining public safety is crucial and called for filling vacant police positions swiftly to bolster crime control efforts. The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of night and foot patrolling, urging senior officials to conduct surprise inspections in the field to ensure patrolling remains effective.

Further, he addressed the ongoing land disputes, which have historically contributed to a large number of murders in the state. He cited a significant drop in such incidents, with murders linked to land disputes decreasing from 60 percent to 46.69 percent, and urged that the land survey and settlement process be completed swiftly to reduce crime further
