Patna: Bihar is likely to experience a significant rise in temperatures over the next few days, with hot sunshine, dry westerly winds, and increasing humidity expected to make conditions uncomfortable across most districts.
According to meteorologists, maximum temperatures across the state may increase by 1°C to 3°C over the next 48 to 72 hours. The impact of the heat is expected to be most severe in southern and western Bihar, where hot winds could blow at speeds of up to 30 kmph.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast maximum temperatures between 43°C and 45°C in districts such as Gaya, Aurangabad, Rohtas, Kaimur, Buxar, and Nawada. In Patna, Bhojpur, Jehanabad, Nalanda, and adjoining areas, temperatures are expected to remain between 41°C and 43°C.
Kaimur recorded the highest temperature in Bihar during the last 24 hours at 40.1°C. Meanwhile, light rainfall was reported from Sasaram and Siwan.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, particularly between 12 noon and 4 pm, when solar radiation is at its peak and temperatures are expected to soar. Heated roads and buildings are likely to further increase the ambient temperature during these hours.
Weather experts have warned that prolonged exposure to the sun could lead to dehydration, fatigue, dizziness, and heat-related illnesses, including heatstroke. Outdoor workers such as labourers, farmers, rickshaw pullers, and delivery personnel have been urged to take extra precautions.
Hot Westerly Winds Expected
Several parts of Bihar are likely to witness hot westerly and north-westerly winds during the afternoon hours. Wind speeds may range between 20 kmph and 30 kmph, potentially intensifying heatwave-like conditions.
The impact of these winds is expected to be more pronounced in open and rural areas, where residents may experience temperatures that feel higher than the actual recorded values.
Patna to Witness Hot and Humid Conditions
The state capital is expected to remain hot and dry throughout the day. Bright sunshine from the morning hours is likely to push temperatures higher as the day progresses.
The maximum temperature in Patna is forecast to remain between 39°C and 43°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 30°C to 31°C. Increasing humidity levels may add to the discomfort despite dry weather conditions.
In Samastipur, weather conditions remained dry on Tuesday morning with intense sunshine from the early hours. During the past 24 hours, the district recorded a maximum temperature of 37.4°C and a minimum temperature of 25°C.
