Muzaffarpur/Patna:The Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB) has arrested Dr Ajay Kumar, Additional Director (Health), Tirhut Division, after allegedly catching him accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000 during a trap operation.

The action was carried out following a complaint alleging that money had been demanded in exchange for official work, according to officials.

Complaint led to verification

The bureau said it received information alleging a demand for a bribe. After conducting a preliminary verification, officials found sufficient grounds to proceed with a trap operation.

A plan was then prepared to catch the accused while allegedly accepting the money.

Arrest during trap operation

According to the VIB, the complainant was sent with the agreed amount as part of the operation.

Officials said Dr Kumar was apprehended immediately after allegedly accepting Rs. 40,000. The cash was also recovered during the operation.

Investigation underway

Following the arrest, the accused official was taken into custody for questioning.

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged demand and the purpose for which the money was sought. Authorities are also looking into whether any other individuals were involved in the case.

Documents may be examined

Officials said further investigation could include scrutiny of documents linked to the accused officer’s office and other relevant locations.

The bureau said legal action will proceed based on the findings of the investigation.

Anti-corruption drive

The arrest comes amid ongoing anti-corruption efforts in Bihar, with vigilance authorities continuing to pursue complaints involving alleged bribery and misconduct by public officials.

The allegations against the officer are under investigation, and the case will proceed in accordance with the law.
