Patna: The Howrah–Kathgodam Bagh Express has received a major upgrade, with Indian Railways replacing its old coaches with modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches to enhance passenger safety and comfort.
Train No. 13019 arrived at Platform No. 3 of Siwan Junction on Sunday with its new LHB rake, drawing attention from passengers and railway enthusiasts alike. After its scheduled halt, the train departed for its onward journey.
Passengers Mistake Train for Premium Service
The train’s new colour scheme and modern design left several passengers momentarily confused.
As the Bagh Express entered the platform, some travellers initially assumed it was the Vaishali Superfast Express or another premium-category train. The confusion was cleared only after passengers checked the coach markings and onboard display systems before boarding.
Safety and Comfort Enhanced
Railway officials said LHB coaches offer significant safety advantages over conventional ICF coaches.
Designed with anti-telescopic features, LHB coaches are less likely to climb over one another during accidents, reducing the risk of severe damage and improving passenger safety.
The coaches are also equipped with improved suspension systems, resulting in a smoother ride with fewer jerks and vibrations.
In addition, LHB coaches generally accommodate more berths than older coach designs, increasing passenger capacity while improving travel comfort on long-distance routes.
Part of Railway Modernisation Programme
The upgrade is part of Indian Railways’ broader initiative to phase out older coaches and introduce modern rolling stock across the network.
Officials said the move aims to provide passengers with a safer, more comfortable and technologically advanced travel experience.
Official Statement
Ashok Kumar, Public Relations Officer of the Varanasi Division, said all rakes of the Bagh Express have now been converted to LHB coaches.
He said the upgraded coaches offer higher berth capacity, improved aesthetics and enhanced safety standards, making journeys more convenient and secure for passengers.
