Darbhanga/Patna:Darbhanga MP Gopal Ji Thakur has said efforts are underway to strengthen railway connectivity between Kolkata and Darbhanga following discussions at a high-level meeting of the Railway Standing Committee in Kolkata.
According to the MP, a roadmap has been prepared to improve rail services on the route, with further details expected to emerge as the proposals move forward.
Focus on passenger services and infrastructure
Thakur said the discussions included measures to enhance passenger convenience and modernise railway infrastructure.
He indicated that proposals under consideration include the introduction of additional train services and improvements to passenger facilities at railway stations serving the region.
No official timeline for the implementation of the proposals was announced.
Connectivity expected to benefit Mithilanchal
The MP said improved rail links between Kolkata and Darbhanga could provide greater convenience for passengers travelling between the two cities.
He added that stronger connectivity could benefit students, traders and other regular travellers by improving access to key economic and educational centres.
Freight and logistics also discussed
The Railway Standing Committee meeting also reviewed freight transportation and logistics infrastructure.
According to Thakur, discussions focused on making freight operations more efficient, faster and customer-oriented through infrastructure improvements and capacity enhancement measures.
Potential economic impact
Railway officials and policymakers have increasingly emphasised the role of rail infrastructure in supporting economic growth and regional development.
Improved passenger and freight connectivity between eastern India and Mithilanchal is expected to contribute to commercial activity and strengthen transport links in the region.
