Patna: The southwest monsoon has started becoming active across Bihar, bringing the prospect of widespread rainfall and much-needed relief from the prevailing heat and humidity. Rainfall was reported in Bettiah on Saturday morning, marking the beginning of increased monsoon activity in the state.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for thunderstorms and rain in 12 districts of Bihar on Saturday. Gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 60 kmph are also likely in these districts.
According to the Meteorological Centre, weather conditions are expected to remain normal in 26 districts, with sunshine during the morning hours. However, monsoon activity is forecast to intensify across the state over the next two to three days.
During the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in parts of Sitamarhi, Bagaha, Samastipur, Siwan, Gopalganj, Bhagalpur, and Patna.
Temperature Likely to Drop
Meteorologists have predicted that the revival of the monsoon will lead to widespread rainfall, resulting in a noticeable decline in temperatures. The maximum temperature is expected to fall by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius by June 29, offering relief from the scorching summer conditions.
The impact of the monsoon is expected to strengthen across Bihar by the end of June, with most districts likely to receive good rainfall.
Seemanchal, Kosi to Receive Heavy Rainfall
The Meteorological Centre has forecast that the Seemanchal, Kosi, and eastern Bihar regions will witness the strongest monsoon activity. Several parts of north Bihar are also likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall over the coming days.
Low-Pressure Area Strengthening Over Bay of Bengal
Weather experts said a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is gradually strengthening, increasing moisture levels over Bihar and enhancing the chances of rainfall.
Over the next three to four days, most parts of the state are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall, while isolated places in eastern and northeastern Bihar may witness heavy showers.
Patna Likely to Witness Rain and Strong Winds
The state capital is expected to experience partly cloudy skies along with light rainfall on Saturday. Strong winds may also sweep across the city during the day.
The pleasant weather is likely to continue throughout the day, with falling temperatures expected to provide relief from the intense heat and humidity.
Meanwhile, residents of Bettiah woke up to steady rainfall on Saturday morning, bringing immediate respite from the sultry weather.
