Patna: Bihar government has outlined an extensive plan to upgrade healthcare infrastructure across the state, with Health Minister Nishant announcing that all district hospitals will be developed into super-specialty facilities in a phased manner. Community Health Centres (CHCs) will also be upgraded into specialty hospitals under the same programme.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Urban Primary Health Center at Dariyapur Bhatti in Patna, where Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra was also present.
Healthcare Infrastructure Expansion
The Health Minister said the restructuring plan aims to strengthen secondary and tertiary healthcare services across Bihar. He added that the expansion will be implemented in phases to ensure smooth transition and improved patient care.
Officials said the focus remains on making advanced medical services accessible at the district level, reducing dependence on major urban hospitals.
Trauma Centres and Hospital Capacity
According to the Health Minister, 11 Level-3 trauma centres and five Level-2 trauma centres are being established across five zones in the state. These centres are expected to strengthen emergency response systems for accident and critical care cases.
A new 400-bed facility is also planned at Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital. Authorities have also indicated that bed capacity in Primary Health Centres (PHCs) will be increased from September, alongside a fresh recruitment drive to fill vacancies in the Health Department.
CCTV Monitoring in Hospitals
The government has announced installation of CCTV cameras in around 15,000 hospitals across Bihar to monitor attendance and hospital functioning.
Officials said a specialised software system will record doctors’ attendance and track activities in OPD, IPD, wards and operation theatres. The data will be monitored through a central Command and Control Centre at the state headquarters.
The Health Minister said he would personally review the monitoring reports to ensure accountability in service delivery.
Medicines and Diagnostic Services
The state government has also prioritised the supply and quality of medicines in public hospitals. Regular monitoring systems will be put in place to ensure availability and standards.
Plans are also underway to expand diagnostic services such as MRI, CT scan and ultrasound at Community Health Centres and district hospitals, aiming to reduce the need for patients to travel to larger cities for tests.
Hospital Inspection and UPHC Expansion
Following the inauguration event, the Health Minister inspected the Urban Primary Health Center, reviewing facilities including registration counters, OPD rooms and consultation areas. He also underwent an eye examination during the visit, with doctors confirming normal vision.
Officials said the facility currently operates with two beds and eight staff members, including two doctors, with scope for expansion based on demand.
Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitish Mishra said construction of 20 to 25 Urban Primary Health Centres under the Smart City project in Patna has been completed and will soon be handed over to the Health Department.
Local Access to Healthcare
With new Urban Primary Health Centres becoming operational, residents of Ward-38 and nearby areas in Patna are expected to gain improved access to primary healthcare services close to their homes.
Authorities said the centres are being equipped with modern facilities and will be operational in a phased manner after handover.
