Patna: Police have launched an investigation after the family of a NEET aspirant lodged a complaint alleging that an unidentified person created a fake Instagram account in the student’s name and circulated edited, objectionable photos, videos and messages online.
The complaint was filed at Kankarbagh police station, where the family alleged that the fake profile was being used to damage the student’s reputation and subject her to online harassment.

According to the written complaint, the student has been staying with her relatives in a rented house in Sachivalaya Colony under the Kankarbagh police station area while preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
The family said the incident has disrupted the student’s studies and affected her mental well-being during an important stage of her academic preparation.
Fake Profile Allegedly Used to Defame Student
The complainant alleged that an unknown individual created an Instagram account using the student’s identity without her knowledge or consent.
According to the family, the account has been used to post edited photographs, fabricated videos and objectionable messages, allegedly with the intention of defaming the student. They described the incident as a deliberate attempt to tarnish her reputation through social media.
Family Raises Concerns Over Mental Distress
The family said the alleged online activity has caused significant emotional distress to the student and created anxiety among family members.
They also claimed that the continued circulation of the content has adversely affected the student’s ability to focus on her NEET preparation.
Police and Cyber Cell Asked to Take Action
The family has submitted the link to the alleged fake Instagram account and other relevant details to the police as part of the complaint.
They have requested the police and the cyber cell to remove the fake account, identify the person responsible through an impartial investigation, and initiate appropriate legal action in accordance with the law.
Police are investigating the allegations. No arrests had been reported at the time of writing.
